Chromium Supplement Controversy

For many years we have seen studies pop up that suggest that supplementing with chromium picolinate may improve insulin sensitivity and improve blood sugar control.

Two recent studies have shown that while supplementing with chromium picolinate does improve our chromium level, it does not improve blood sugar values.

The recommendation is that if you are taking the supplement in moderate doses, 400-800 micrograms/day, then not to stop as it may be helping prevent a deficiency. However, if you are not taking it, then there is probably not evidence to support starting the supplement.

Good food sources of chromium include:

Apples, bananas, beef, broccoli, chicken, eggs, grape juice, green beans, green peppers, liver, orange juice, and spinach.
