The Bullitt County Partners in Prevention has been awarded a Drug-Free Community grant from the Office on National Drug Control Policy. August 28, 2008, was the release date of the new grant awards for prevention coalitions across the nation. Bullitt County Health Department, the fiscal agent of the Partners In Prevention Coalition (PIP) learned that they will receive one of those grants. Partners In Prevention Coalition has existed for about 15 years in the county, quietly working to prevent or reduce drug and alcohol use and abuse in youth. “This grant will allow us to provide a more comprehensive approach to the drug issues in this county,” reports Cynthia Brown, Partners In Prevention Chair. “The Drug-Free Communities program helps communities get the hard work of prevention done," said SAMHSA Administrator Terry Cline, Ph.D. “By connecting local programs, systems, and funding streams through these new grants, the full force of the community will be brought to bear on preventing drug abuse and promoting healthy productive lives.” Coalitions are comprised of community leaders, parents, youth, teachers, religious and fraternal organizations, health care and business professionals, law enforcement and the media. “We are looking for individuals to join us in this effort.” states Ms. Brown, “Are you retired? Do you like to teach? Are you good at organizing events? Do you have a passion for seeing the drug and alcohol problems of this county decrease? Are you good with a camera or writing articles? If you said yes to any of these questions, PIP needs you!” Please call us at 502-955-5355 or visit our website www.bcPartnersInPrevention.com for more information in how you can become part of the solution.”
