As you may have noticed from the front page of this publication, it’s flu season.  I can’t emphasize enough how important it is to get a flu shot annually.  Influenza kills over 30,000 people each year in America.  That is unacceptable.  One of the high risk groups for influenza, those 65 and older, averages less than a 70% immunization rate.  That’s almost one in three older Americans who are, for one reason or another, not protecting themselves.  That’s why I’m taking the space to address it in my little corner of this newsletter.  There will be a record number of doses of vaccine available this flu season, over 130 million, so please take the time to get a shot.  Protect yourself and others.

As you read this, we should have our Environmental, HANDS, and Health Education staff moved into the Harold Meredith Annex behind our main building at Lees Valley Road in Shepherdsville.  It’s taken longer than we thought to build, but we think it’s been worth it.  We’ll have an Open House in October or November, which we’ll let everyone know about.

If you have a question or concern about something health-related, don’t hesitate to contact us.  Our website address is at the top of this page, or you can call us at the phone numbers listed above.  We are your county health department, and we’re here for you.  Have a great fall.
