Unbelievably, the Kentucky Housing Corporation has re-opened their housing voucher program on January 1st after closing it for 3 years.  The waiting list that has existed for so many years has been removed & they are requiring people to start the process over by re-applying.  Though KY Housing sent letters out to families who were on the list to explain this to them, it’s likely that many people don’t know about it since they move around a lot.

Families can do a pre-application online that I’m told will put them on the waiting list.  KHC will send them further requests for more information.

Here’s how you do it…

Go to www.kyhousing.org and put the cursor on “rental assistance” on the left hand column.  A gray box will appear and when the cursor is placed on “housing choice voucher” another gray box appears – click on “housing choice voucher” again.  This will bring you to the pre-application.  It will also give information on a phone # you can call to get an application mailed to you.

Please share with any families you know that are in need of housing.  These vouchers can be used for apartments, houses, or mobile homes (that meet inspection requirements).  The sooner they put in their application the better because I have a feeling as the word gets out, the list will get pretty long pretty quickly.  Of course, the number of landlords willing to take Section 8 is limited in the county, but it will still give people some options that we haven’t had in quite a while.
