Don’t wait until August to get your child ready for school.  Make plans now to get school physical exams and immunizations.  All children entering school for the first time (whether it is Head Start, Preschool, or Kindergarten) and those entering 6th grade, will need a physical exam.  Children also need to have the age-appropriate vaccines required to enter school, so make sure your child’s immunizations certificate is current.

Vaccine Update:

If a child is 11-12 years of age and it has been at least five (5) years since the child received the last dose of DTaP, DTP or DT, then a booster dose of Tetanus/Diphtheria (Td) or (TdaP) should be administered.  The immunization certificate will be considered out of compliance if the student has not received this booster by thirteen (13) years of age.

It is recommended this vaccine be given to your child when obtaining your child’s sixth grade “KY Preventative Physical Exam”.  A new, complete KY Immunization Certificate that reflects a change of expiration date should be issued by the medical provider.
