Dear Parents/Guardians:
As you may have heard, a new influenza virus, called the 2009 H1N1 influenza virus, was first identified in the United States in late April 2009. The virus has caused illness ranging from mild to severe, including hospitalizations and deaths in adults and children. Many children have gotten 2009 H1N1 infection and there have been large outbreaks in some schools across the country. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices has recommended that children and young adults aged 6 months through 24 years be vaccinated against 2009 H1N1 as soon as the vaccine is available.
Vaccination is the best way to protect your child from this potentially serious disease. The Bullitt County Health Department is working with Bullitt County Public Schools to offer H1N1 vaccination clinics to school-aged children. The Bullitt County Health Department will offer H1N1 intranasal vaccine to healthy children aged 5 years - 19 years at the following dates and locations:
 | November 17, 2009 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Bullitt Central High School cafeteria |
| December 1, 2009 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at North Bullitt High School cafeteria |
| December 8, 2009 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Bullitt East High School gym |
Dates and times are subject to change based on availability of vaccine. A parent or legal guardian must accompany the child to receive vaccine.
Attached is a vaccine information sheet on the H1N1 intranasal vaccine. If you have any questions about the vaccine or H1N1 virus, please call the Public H1N1 Hotline at 877-843-7727 from 8:00 a.m. until 10:00 p.m. Other resources include the Kentucky Department for Public Health H1N1 website www.healthalerts.ky.gov and CDC’s 2009 H1N1 influenza web site at http://www.cdc.gov/h1n1flu/ and also http://www.cdc.gov/h1n1flu/parents for information especially for parents. Your child’s health care provider also can answer your questions about the 2009 H1N1 influenza virus and may be a provider of the H1N1 vaccine. If you are unable to bring your child to one of these dates, please check the Bullitt County Health Department’s website at www.bullittcountyhealthdept.com. Future H1N1 vaccination clinics open to the public will be posted on the website.
