The Bullitt County Health Department Employees launched a pilot wellness program on February 4th.   The response has exceeded expectations and the willingness to participate exciting thus far!  The health department employees are a dynamic group; who not only focus on the daily health needs of individuals and as a community, but share the same time constraints as many individuals experience in the workplace.  The challenge in many of our busy lives is to make time for ourselves and to see and or feel the benefits of healthy behaviors. Therefore, we are looking at ways to creatively implement strategies to help energize the adventure!

Collectively, our group chose to focus first on the “physical” component of wellness. Total Lifestyle “Wellness” consists of six intertwined dimensions of health; physical, social, emotional, intellectual, environmental & spiritual health.    Following a lively introduction to the program, a personal wellness evaluation time capsule, anthropometric data collection and an “interest” meeting, the tailored program began to take shape.

Most businesses have a hardy interest in the well-being of each employee.  The need collectively as a group to enhance our lifestyles toward healthy behaviors is well understood from a ‘fiscal’ point of view but individually for many of us, our ‘physical’ wellness has diminished somewhat.  By personally “Authoring” our own “Lifestyle Script” – we are investing in our longevity and vitality for ourselves and the needs of our families.  The workplace is a great vehicle to utilize this concept due to the fact we spend most of our waking hours at work, it is an excellent source of social support, and in many cases a newfound source of humor from co-workers!

Hope Foster Care Center employees have accepted the challenge of a six week series launch!  Groups interested in entertaining this “Lifestyle Authorship” concept for their business or group, please contact Lori Nelson at the Health Department at 955-5355.
